Do What You Say, Not What You Do.

As previously mentioned, I decided to make my pilgrimage west in mid May of 2014. I gave myself 2 months to stop pooping my pants, save money, tie -up loose ends, and get the heck out of New Hampshire. During those two stalemate months I dreamt up lists of things I would start doing once I moved to California. My lists consisted of things I have been meaning to do for years but just, bleh didn’t.

Whitney’s List of Things to Do once in Sunny California!!

-Get fit! because 1. its the right thing to be. 2. its California, everyone is fit and seemingly perfect. 3. Your body is your temple.

-Get into yoga! because 1. everybody is doing it 2. it potentially could be a grand alternative to prozac someday 3. namaste

-*Start a blog! * because 1. I’m young & living a badass adventure 2.also great brain exercise for the post-grad vegetable.

-Join a book club because 1. closet nerd til death. 2. potential outlet to make friends?

-Be a tourist! because 1. no one knows me 2. I could and should do everything a tourist would do in SB and surrounding areas.

-Go to the Beach every damn day! because 1. it’s there & literally always perfect 2. who doesn’t love sunkissed skin?

-Hike! because 1. there are a mizillion great trails (or atleast that’s what the worldwideweb says!) 2. I have these totally great $150 dollar hiking boots that have been up little Mt. Monadnock in NH 1-2 time(s).

….the list continues on and on. And let me tell you, it is a great list and if I had immediately given 100% of myself into doing all of these things to my outmost ability maybe I would have avoided the increasingly consistent homesickness blues I have been experiencing. However, what did I do when I got to California?

Whitney’s List of Things she ACTUALLY did once in Sunny California

-Began working at a winery AKA. quality control, wine drinking & lots of it (I am not saying this is horrible but refer back to “ Get Fit! ”)

-Ben & Jerry’s .

-Between my 2 jobs, my beach time has been few & far between

I am justifying these cracks in my marvelous California life change plan with the fact that I was getting adjusted to a very crazy & hectic job and quite possibly eating & drinking my feelings(EXCUSE!).. shame on me, right? But but but.. with the creation of this blog, the purchase of my new fabulous beach cruising bike (more to come), my corepower yoga groupon, my food swap club etc. I am slowly but surely crossing things off of my wishful thinking list. And I feel fantastic, no crying to my mama this week!

I truly believe that becoming a regular blogger, will in fact, force me to follow through on my dreams and passions. It is so easy to just go home after work and dive into a ben&jerrys pint and whatever episode you left off on your current netflix series crack binge BUT fight the urge. I am going to hold myself accountable by reporting back to the public (YOU) with all of the rad things I am doing (I’m trying to incorporate rad into my daily narrative when applicable so it becomes more natural..) Create a list, do the things you SAY you have always wanted to do, instead of the things you have always done.

Because everyone loves a good illiteration, I have decided to dedicate the following blog days to some pretty cheesy themes that will FORCE me to follow through and make the most out of this move, even if I have no friends :).

Tourist Tuesday: Look forward to hearing all about what “tourist-like"adventures I ventured that passed week. (To my east coast readers: this should encourage you all to come and visit me!)

TBTB: ThrowBackThursdayBlogs: Pictures are great, but behind every picture is a story and usually a story worth telling. These shall be pee-your-pants funny flashbacks to my younger/wilder/quite-possibly-more-fun college years.. To any relative readers: I warn you now, you will not like these, so just avoid the blog on Thursdays or enter at your own risk!

Also, go listen to some of Jasmine Thompson’s covers. the girl is fire.

2 Months Out.

Mus In May of 2014 I thought, “Wow, Whitney, you are 23 years old, you were born, raised, educated in rural New Hampshire for all of those 23 years. Next question: Are you going to start a career, family, a 401(k) in NH... Continue →
