Well, shit man…

I have been slacking on the blog that I promised my self and my few followers (Thanks Mom&Mimi for being my strong fan base! xo) But it is not my fault because I have been extremely busy making FRIENDS! Gosh, I took for granted all my life-long friends in NH that have to love me, because at this point I know too much and am a liability :). Making friends is a full-time job - on top of my actual full-time job, my part-time job and my promise to get fit (still working on that). Now that all my excuses for not blogging are out on the table, here is my vow to do better! Forgive me, lets move on.

Whit Went West continued..
I have been a very busy gal! I moved into a fancy-dancy three bedroom, three bathroom condo with my two friends from NH. 603 –> 805 house! When I packed up my car in July I included absolutely zero “Household Goods.” Starting from scratch in a state about as far away from your home as you can get is a up-hill challenge. Not to mention, there is sales tax here and gosh that shit sucks. (For any of my potential CA followers, NH is one of the only states that doesn’t have sales tax. If it says it $9.99 it is $9.99! This is a trusting relationship that I have been apart of my whole life and miss dearly) However, through craiglist, tjmaxx, Ikea, and the grace of god our house is functional and if I-do-say-so-myself, pretty darn cute! We certainly need an artistic touch as we have ZERO art, but it is in the 4 month plan for sure!

More on Ikea: Amazing place. The mecca for young-starving-attempting-to-be-professionals. I am still not 100% sure what exactly happened while I was shopping in Ikea or what I bought because it is so darn confusing. I can say I love everything that ended up being delivered to my house 2 short-sweet days later (Complimentary delivery wasn’t a thing, $260ish.. bang bang) While I was sitting on my kitchen floor, attempting to put together 16 different pieces of IKEA furniture, two days later, in cold sweat, with a blisters on my hands from my screw driver - I realized, I am a strong, independent, self-sufficient woman that does NOT need a man, but holy shit it would be much easier if I had one.

What else to catch you up on???
I joined Rotaract or as I like to call it, “Nerd Club” I am a nerd and I am proud.

Wikipedia Definition (Don’t expect an APA citation, I left that shit at college, sue me - see if I care):

“Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary.

As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.
“Rotaractor’s engage their local and international communities through a range of social, professional and community based activities and events”?

I am actually really enjoying my nerd club (obviously, since I’m a nerd.) These nerds know how to have fun on top of doing lots of great volunteer work within the community. I joined the club just in time to attend their “Trolley of Lights” fundraising event which was basically all of the members drinking on a trolley and looking at christmas lights. BUT it was for a great cause, we all paid $40 dollars that went towards Big Brothers Big Sisters. I also attended a meeting just last night (at a bar - the club has some perks) It seems like our upcoming 2015 calendar promises to be both fun and rewarding. And it is a nice-warm-and-fuzzy feeling to know I am giving some of my free time (usually spent watching netflix and/or taking baths & painting my nails) doing for others less fortunate and meeting young professionals that actually give a shit about the world and not just getting drunk & laid (sorry Mimi, but it’s true). So here is my plug for Rotaract: If you are young and give a shit about the world and HEY, I don’t know looking for a resume booster? Look for a rotaract or rotary club and join!

Update on my non-nerdy life:
I have a growing group of friends here in California and am not feeling so “Perks of being a wall flower” and sorry for myself.

Weekly Realization of West Coasters:
-Everybody hugs here and a lot: That just does not happen on the east coast. When I get to work everyone hugs, when I leave work everyone hugs. If I see someone I’ve met once before on the street, we hug. This is something that at first FREAKED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. Back in cold New Hampshire (where hugging should be done more, simply to stay warm and cut oil costs) we only hug is someone is crying, their dog died, they got engaged (usually you actually just wait for the wedding and hug them there in that awkward hug line). I have been conditioned to have a bubble and not like popping it, or for that matter popping others. Hugging is growing on me, it is, in theory, a sweet gesture.
-Everybody knows how to surf, skateboard, namaste, and ski and if there was a way to do all 4 at the same time they would do it EVERY day. Every day I am reminding how clumsy and uncoordinated I am and hate myself for it.

Well this post has been disorganized and all over the place. Which is quite fitting because that is exactly how my life is! I will do better next time, just wanted to reach out and say “No, I have not forgotten about blogging and all the new things I want to do in california” Stay tuned for a funny, more structured post about Camping in California!
